Job Title: Planning Intern

Job Type: Full Time - Temporary

Location: Polk County, IA

Position: Planning Intern.  Under the supervision of the Planning and Development Manager and Land Use Planning Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with the professional planning activities relating to community development, comprehensive land use planning, and code enforcement; including; reviewing new/existing development projects and preparing information for reports; handling community inquiries; preparing maps and graphics; reviewing zoning and subdivision ordinances and files; conducting site inspections and performing other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the basic principles of planning, development and zoning ordinances.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Basic understanding of Windows based software including spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and geographic information systems (ArcGIS).  

Qualifications: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to two years of college with course work in planning, landscape architecture, architecture, public administration or a related field.  Strong consideration will be given to students enrolled in an urban planning program with GIS experience.
