The Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO) is looking for a Regional Planner I to develop and manage projects with cities and counties within the tri-state area of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Under the direction of the Regional Planning Director, the Regional Planner will develop and implement goals, objectives, and priorities of the Transportation Division and Community and Economic Development Division of SIMPCO. In addition, the position will primarily assist with the transportation planning activities within each of the SIMPCO Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the Siouxland Regional Transportation Planning Association (SRPTA), bike and pedestrian planning, grant applications, and any other related duties as assigned by the Regional Planning Director.
The Regional Planner will be required to collect, analyze and compile, organize and present technical statistical and related information pertaining to planning. Interpret, apply and explain laws, rules, and regulations. Prepare concise written and oral reports. Provide services to the public in a courteous and effective member. Conduct field work that may be required for certain projects.
Knowledge of Mircosoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and ArcGIS is recommended. Applicant must possess strong writing, research, and computer skills. Good written and oral communication skills are highly recommended. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other persons inside and outside of the organization.
4-year degree from an accredited college or university in community development, transportation planning, geography, urban planning or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Salary: $41,000 - $54,500
